BIOGRAPHY

Jason Silvis was born in 1975 at Citizens General Hospital in New Kensington. He was raised in Washington Township along with his two older sisters, mother and stepfather. Jason graduated from Kiski Area High school and went on to study business at Penn State New Kensington. After this time, Jason decided to follow his lifelong dream of being a stuntman in the film industry. He packed his bags and moved to Los Angeles by himself where he broke into the unknown world of the stunt industry. Now after 20 plus years in the film industry, Jason has decided to run for State Representative for District 55 and fight for you in Harrisburg.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

For the last 22 years, Jason has worked as a stunt performer and stunt coordinator in over I 00 movies, television shows, and commercials. His work involved playing multiple characters, working directly with producers, directors, and a multitude of other people to execute the action and safety of a show. Jason also had to hire stunt players to fill the role of each stunt while keeping within the budget. Safety is the number one concern on set, not just for the stunt players, but for the crew as well.

POLITICAL LIFE

This is Jason Silvis's first time running for office. Over the years, Jason has become fed up with the practices of our state government. It is discouraging to see the way the state government is heading and seeing the same people in office repeatedly with little results. With everything going on in the world around us, it has been a difficult time for everyone. It is also a difficult time to run for office. Despite all of this Jason, is grateful to have opportunities to talk with many constituents in the district and to listen to those issues that are important to people. "Sometimes your most driving forces are not your greatest memories."

Second Amendment

The Founders understood the need for a citizenry able to defend itself. The Constitution, and the courts, have both made it clear that firearm ownership is an individual right and shall not be infringed.

Opioid Epidemic

One of the byproducts of the current Covid-19 pandemic has been a surge in the abuse of opioids. Jason believes that treatment is always a better choice before jail when it comes to addicts. And he also believes that those peddling opioids – whether on the street corner or the corporate boardroom – should be held accountable.

Education

A child’s Zip Code should not determine whether he or she gets a good education. That’s why Jason supports well-funded public schools but knows that a one-size-fits-all approach to education doesn’t always work. He believes families and students should enjoy a variety of options. Our state Constitution guarantees every child a proper education, and Jason is determined to see that promise kept.

Human Services

Society has an obligation to look after those unable to care for themselves. And, in turn, Jason also knows that those we help have an obligation to play by the rules and partner with the Commonwealth to lift themselves out of poverty. That’s why Jason knows that the best route out of poverty isn’t a handout – it’s a good-paying job.

Pro-life

Jason believes strongly in the sanctity of life and knows that to protect life, we must do so in all of its forms. Opposed to abortion-on-demand, Jason also believes that society must create an overarching culture of life that cares for its children, protects them after birth as well as before, and encourages compassionate choices for all families.

Health Care

The stories of long waits for treatment and of unresponsive bureaucrats has been an important lesson to draw from other countries that provide health insurance without real health coverage. That’s why Jason supports a free-market approach to health care, with government working to hold down costs and ensure not just health care, but quality health care for our citizens.

Energy

Too long forgotten by Harrisburg, western Pennsylvania is enjoying an energy renaissance with good-paying jobs for working families, making Pennsylvania a major energy producer. The uptick in natural gas production and jobs has meant lower energy costs and an amazing 30 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Jason believes we need to build on this progress and prosperity.

Justice Reform

While Jason supports reforms to end overcrowding in prisons and unreasonable sentences, he also understands that this can only be done by balancing the rights of the accused with the rights of the victim. Long sentences for victimless crimes don’t serve society. Lenient treatment for violent crime fails us as well. Jason will be an advocate for families on both sides of this divide, working to create a just society.
